What Is the Rehabilitation Process Like?

Although the exact steps taken during rehabilitation may vary from patient to patient, most follow the following for best results:
Start with Recovery in Mind Early
The sooner you initiate proper rehabilitation, the better! To avoid problems with healing and delays in recovery, act quickly and get in touch with us right after you’ve been injured.
Utilize Cold Therapy First
Packs of ice can reduce initial swelling, jumpstart the healing process, and provide additional relief from discomfort.
Elevate and Compress
If possible, rest with the injured limb elevated above your heart to limit swelling. Compression with a flexible bandage accomplishes the same goal. Taking it easy for a bit allows your body to start the healing process on its own.
Begin Physical Therapy When Appropriate
After resting for a certain amount of time, which Dr. Z will recommend to you, your body needs to be move and be challenged to fully recover. Through exercises and stretches as well as electrical stimulation, massage or joint mobilization, and hot and cold therapy, your body can take advantage of its natural processes to heal.
Stick with the Program to Build Strength and Regain Balance
Even if your injury prevents you from being active for a brief period of time, your body may need to relearn certain simple things like remaining balanced or carrying weight. Rehabilitation isn’t always a short process, but it is worthwhile to return to normal activities, relieve pain, and restore your flexibility and function.
